Food standards petition
The NFU has developed a food standards petition to ensure the Government does not undermine British farming and allow imported food into the country that would be illegal to produce here.
The petition has got the backing of Jamie Oliver and has done extremely well - I believe we are now over 850,000 signatures.
The Agriculture Bill is very important and has the potential to reduce the standards of UK agriculture (whether it be welfare, pesticides or many other areas) to bring down to the level at which other countries can export their inferior product to us – potentially at cheaper prices than we can produce at.
The Agriculture Bill is currently going through the House of Lords, and needs amendments to ensure that the high standards set by UK agriculture are not watered down to pander to trade deals.
The NFU is encouraging people to tweet or post from all social media they use, encouraging people to sign the petition. I have attached a picture that you may want to use as well as the link to the petition.
If you do not have a social media account please feel free to text/email your friends and family!
Please sign the petition – it is so easy, and takes less than 30 seconds. Every signature is important to protect British Agriculture, so please sign the petition and share with friends and colleagues who have an interest in and can support UK agriculture!
Best wishes,
Martin Humphrey
